Recommending Fresco Tours Every Opportunity We Get

Alissa, Alex, YOU BOTH ARE WONDERFUL. From the very first email that I sent to you inquiring if it was a good idea to walk on The Camino in November and if it would be possible for you to arrange a last minute trip for us your responsiveness has been unbelievably fast. Not only are you responsive, but you are knowledgeable, insightful, proactive, have great attention to detail, great planners, helpful, and clearly love what you do, and clearly care that your customers have a great trip. The trip that you arranged for us was wonderful! We loved the walk from Sarria to Santiago and each day looked forward to what the night's stay would bring in terms of accommodations, food and wine which was always a welcome and enjoyable surprise. The information about our trip on The Camino that you had waiting for us at our hotel on the first night was incredibly informative and helpful throughout our trip. The hotels that you arranged for us were great and the baggage transfers worked perfectly. And you exceeded our expectations again when you called us twice during our trip to check in on us!! We will be recommending Fresco Tours every opportunity we get, and if you ever need a reference, we would be happy to be a reference for you. Thank you again for arranging one of the best trips we have ever had.

Peregrinos with Fresco Tours

Just returned from Galicia and our 100 mile pilgrimage on the Camino. We went with Fresco Tours, about whom I cannot say enough wonderful things! Our guide, Jason, was awesome. Attentive and knowledgeable about the history, the region and all things Camino, we loved getting to know him. We also really appreciated all the Fresco people that we travelled with and worked with. The hotels, inns and manor homes that we stayed in, the delicious meals we shared with our fellow peregrinos, even the challenging weather, served to make our pilgrimage an unforgettable experience! We highly recommend walking the Camino de Santiago, using Fresco Tours as your companion and guide. Buen Camino! Trip Advisor

Our Guides were Superlative

Thank you to you, Alex, for creating such a special and memorable time! Our guides were superlative, in many ways, and the care with which you joined us was much appreciated. Thanks to Jason and Sol, as well. The photos are great, a real variety of situations for us, and of the sights along the way. Wishing you well for the winter months, Anne

So Much to Experience and Taste, but So Little Time

Hi Alex -- The group has had lots of discussions about the Camino afterwards, always such vivid memories of the daily pulsing pain in our toes, but always finished off with good memories (spiritual and otherwise), and capped with exclamations about the lamb, rabo, pulpo, sopa gallega, baby trucha, the sweetest tomatoes and veggies from Marisol's gardens and Elena's neighbor's gardens, albarino and tinto and urojo, etc etc. So much to experience and taste, but so little time, a cliche that rings so true! I must tell you that the pilgrim's blessing at the San Isidoro Church in Leon was very moving -- I don't know why I cried exactly, but I think it's because at that point I have made the vow at the altar of God that I will complete the Camino, that there's no going back, and I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to deliver that commitment. Ha ha, thanks to our indefatigable shepherd Jeffrey, and the impressive spirit of my camino-mates to complete the walk, I was able to do every inch of it. Since I denied myself drinking wine while on the Camino, the cava on that last dinner was extra-celebratory for me. Thanks for making it possible for us to give that special embrace to Santo Santiago at the Cathedral -- for a few moments, EVERYTHNG was right in this world.

Top Contender for Best Active Trip I've Taken

Hola Alex, Thank you so much for a great tour! I travel a lot and, despite my less then perfect health at the time, this was right up there as a top contender for best active trip I've taken. You and Jeffrey did an amazing job of keeping everyone upbeat and cooperative, even on the rainiest of days! The accommodations and food were far beyond what I expected and I'm eagerly awaiting Peggy's pictures of every place we stayed and every bite of food we put in our mouths! The countryside we saw was just beautiful and the trip was great fun and a great value! I've regaled many friends with the CD of pictures and recommendations for the trip! My only addition to information you provide for the trip is to add the waterproof backpack cover to the packing list, and perhaps the inexpensive throw away rain ponchos. Happy Holidays and watch for a package from your US Elves. It should arrive between December 10th and 15th. Marlene

Your Planning and Arrangements Just Perfect

Hello Alex...The walk was an incredible experience and your planning and arrangements just perfect. I loved the places we stayed, food we ate, and things we saw. Carol and Marta were fabulous guides as well as delightful additions to our group. They went the extra mile for us in all instances and really contributed to the success of the walk. In short, I just could not be happier with the trip. One small suggestion, the Cathdral tour in Santiago was wonderful but our group all wanted to attend the noon Mass. With the tour ending at noon, the Cathedral was packed and we could not really get seats or participate in the service like we wanted. I do understand that not all your clients want to attend the Mass. However, starting the tour at 9 instead of 9:30 would allow those who do wish to attend, the opportunity to do so. I hope to have the opportunity to travel with FRESCO again in the future and will highly recommend you to all who are interested. Sincerely, Hilary

I Just Wanted to Hold Onto the Feeling as Long as I Could

Muchas Gracias from me too!!!!! I can't say enough good things about Carol and Marta! They were the greatest; such lovely women and so knowledgeable about Spanish history. The group was great, having all women was really special! We all got along famously and when one needed help, the rest were there to step up and help. I know we will keep in touch with each other. Perhaps you should offer tours for all one gender, I know this one was special, but I know Carol and Marta liked the fact that we were all women as well. The food and lodgings were 5 star! The picnics were outstanding, and the Canadian Thanksgiving picnic was really special for us three Canadians in the group! Thanks to you, Carol and Marta. I know my Camino will stay with me for the rest of my life. I have made some promises to myself that I will try very hard to keep? I really didn't want the walk to end, I just wanted to hold onto the feeling as long as I could. I only wished I could come again and do the entire way! I was so impressed with the Korean, 73 year old gentleman that I sat next to on the bus to Porto. He had walked all the way to Finestere! and had done some Camino walks of 50 plus kilometres along the entire walk. . He lived in Maryland! but had been a trekker on Mt. Everest. He really was an example of all the remarkable people who make a decision to leave their normal lives for a period of time, and lose themselves to the Camino! These are the kind of experiences I will treasure; the people along the way, the silence to enable you to live in your own thoughts as you walked, the beauty of the scenery, and the friendships made within the group, and last but certainly not least, the two special women, Carol and Marta! who guided us along the Way. Thanks Alissa for all your help for the planning for Bilbao! Leon and my trip to Porto. I was happy to meet my husband in Porto! But it's a different kind of holiday now? I walked the golf course at Praia d'el Rey yesterday and took in the views of the beautiful ocean. There is big surf here so lots of young people surfing. Yesterday after a glass of Port, I mustered up the courage to walk along the old historic wall of Obidos, and we attended rosary and mass in Fatima. Portugal is quite different from Spain! but lovely as well? We plan to go into Lisbon and do some more investigating around this area over the next few days, and fly home on the 27th. My Camino memories will stay with me. Muchas gracias again.

It Met My Every Expectation

Buenos Dias, Alex! I can't say enough about my pilgrimage. It met my every expectation! Obviously, the beautiful walk, but included was the wonderful "plentiful" native foods and local wines. The group was compatible, which made the journey that much more enjoyable. Accommodations - A+ - and my kale held up well in the variety of "cool spots" : balconies, windowsills, hanging flower pots!!! My suggestions for improvements: With all the rain we had, I would strongly urge people to come prepared for all types of weather, especially in the spring and fall. Hiking shoes/boots not sneakers, as I saw those who wore them, struggle with blisters - and wear the shoes for a couple of months BEFORE the trip. I know you make a list of things to take, but maybe an emphasis on those two things. The Dollar Stores in the US carry $1.00 ponchos - I ended up giving them to Carol & Leslie - they work!!!! I'm working very hard to recruit 9 people for a tour - remember our "deal" the 10th is free! (just kidding about the 10th) - but have piqued the interest of many friends! My grandson was thrilled with his Real Spain soccer ball - Enjoy the Christmas holidays with Lucas! Fondly, Mary Ellen

Beautiful Wooded Paths, Welcoming Pazos, Wonderful Food and Wine

Hi Alex, Yes the earthquake was indeed terrible thing. Churches, hundreds of years old, were reduced to rubble. Unfortunately, granite does not exist in this country. Back in the day, the material used to make these grand old structures were porous coral mixed with egg yolk and hay. How can that stand a chance against a severe earthquake? The were some lives lost but thankfully it was a holiday and most people were safely at home. Anyway, thanks for your kind thoughts. We are all back home now. It was pretty amazing how we all 'survived' the camino, thanks to Jeffrey and his excellent shepherding skills. All aches and pains, muscle soreness, are just a distant memory. What truly stands out in my mind are the beautiful wooded paths, the welcoming pazos, the wonderful food and wine, the spirituality of the entire experience, and most of all the achievement of all our aspirations - the entry into the Cathedral of Santiago. The tandem of Jeffrey and Alberto was sublime. They worked in absolute harmony, ensuring everyone was in one piece. Of course there were minor inconveniences, which now prove to be insignificant. I'm not sure if would do it all over again. I would have to think long and hard about that. Maybe if the walking day was around 15 kilometers I would consider it. Of course my camino mates, made it exceptionally awe inspiring. After viewing Jeffrey's photos, I now wish it hadn't ended so soon. I can say that now because the aches and pains are gone, and all the inconveniences turned out to be invaluable lessons. I hope Jeffrey didn't have to work too, too hard to make everything move like clockwork. More power to you Alex! Un abrazote desde Manila, Marimi

Excellent Value for the Cost of the Tour

Alex, The tour was wonderful and much of the reason for that must be attributed to Jeff, Cate and Alberto; nothing was too much trouble for them and they were very sensitive to the different personalities in the group and individual needs. I have already shared my experiences with friends and recommended Fresco as an excellent option if they are anxious about walking the Camino as I did in 2012. I also felt it was excellent value for the cost of the tour; and a particular bouquet to Office Manager, Alissa, who made some extra bookings for me, including my Tarjeta Dorado, and was always incredibly efficient and helpful. Last year in May when I walked the first part of the Camino from St Jean Pied de Port to Burgos, carrying my 10kg mochila,I stayed mainly in albergues and ate 'pilgrims' meals,' so I really appreciated the standard of accommodation Fresco had organised - it seemed like absolute luxury to me, with a special mention for our meals, both 'on the road,' as well as 'in house.' The only unexpected surprise for me was the development of blisters on my R.F (side of big toe and L. edge of same foot); this was the last problem I anticipated having had no blister problems on my 2012 Camino - so I was also aware as to how blisters can bring one completely unstuck on the Camino, as I met a number of people in 2012 who had to prematurely withdraw from their walk due to bad blisters which got infected. I was walking in the same boots, and with the same double socks system and with similar poles, as I had in 2012. I had prepared for the 2013 walk by doing regular bush walks of moderate to hard level in Australia, so felt I was pretty fit; my feeling is that the blisters may have developed because of the unseasonably warm weather we experienced, coupled with some quite long days during the first 2-3 days of walking. If there have been others doing a Fresco tour who've had similar problems in the early part of the walk, perhaps it could be worth thinking of making those first 3 days of full walking, 18kms journeys, then increase the distances, once pilgrims have got into their walking rhythm; it is just a suggestion, which may not be feasible, given the tour is designed to be completed within 10 days. My blister problem was solved by immediately applying first aid and taking the bus option of cutting short my walking distance on the 2 days when the blisters were 'fresh.' By the 4th day, I was fine, and had no further problems with blisters. Thanks also for the photographic record of our Camino journey in Galicia, and I guess we should be grateful that the region did not live up to its reputation as the wettest in Spain; walking in continuous rain can be a bit miserable! Muchas gracias

The Fourteen of Us had a Memorable Experience

Alex, We enjoyed your Camino de Santiago Tour of September 24 - October 3 2013 and have just returned to Australia after spending the rest of October in Europe. It is taking a bit of settling down after our adventure on the Camino with Fresco Tours. We were blessed to be touring with twelve other pilgrims under the guidance of two wonderful guides, Marta and Jason. They left no stone unturned as they made sure the fourteen of us had a memorable experience. Jason's encyclopaedic knowledge of any number of subjects but particularly the Camino and Spanish history added measurably to our enjoyment and made the tour truly enriching. Marta and Jason made an excellent team, they have and deserve our gratitude. They were very personable and excellent companions. It was a pleasure to find our luggage available in our rooms at the end of each day. I don't think I have toured where my need to worry about luggage was so minimal. As for the meals, walk and accommodation, all were most fitting and were a pleasant part of the adventure Fresco offered - loved all the wines too! Thanks for putting up with us, it was tougher than we thought it would be but Jason and Marta got us through. Sincerely John and Norma Burrows

I Would Give Fresco Tours 5 Stars

Hi Alissa, I'm not sure there is any way to improve on this experience...Except...you may want to have a tour specifically designed for the "spiritual"...or Catholic. Perhaps there are other tours that do that. The Hotels got better with each stop...liked them all. The food was fantastic...picnics were delicious...You might want to carry more 'compeed' in the bus...for that unexpected blister. I would give Fresco Tours 5 stars!!! Warmest wishes, Mary PS. missing Spain already...

A Perfect Trip and an Exceptional Experience

Hi Alex, A written thank you in addition to our verbal thank you. The pilgrimage and your organization exceeded all expectations. The lodging was comfortable, enjoyable and very compatible with the journey. The food also exceeded expectations in quality, variety, and definitely in quantity and the experience of some new and different choices. The Spanish wines were excellent and they never ran out. Your comments, briefings and written material covering the history of the pilgrimage, the villages and the architecture added a depth, greater understanding and lasting memories to a long walk. Most of all, you and Cate were more than our guides, you made us feel that you were our host and we were very special guests. Thank you. While I don't think I will accept your proposal of doing the whole Camino, I certainly will encourage our friends to contact you to participate in the experience. We also will encourage our son and daughter-in-law to plan a trip with you in the next year or two. Once more, a very big thank you for a perfect trip and an exceptional experience. Would Not have Wanted Anyone Else to Guide Me

Dear Alex, I have only been home for a day and still suffer from a little jet lag but wanted to get this off before "life" started back. Jason and Marta were outstanding and deserve my highest recommendation. As a dentist, I deal with all different people with multiple problems and "personalities". Jason and Marta complemented each other. Both worked tirelessly to make it a perfect tour. There was a moment when I had a "come-a-part" with my back but Marta came to the rescue and we found a pharmacy with a back brace and thanks to this, I was able to walk in with all my friends. Marta was always upbeat, smiling, laughing, teaching and most importantly patient. Jason was extremely knowledgeable and also very patient and upbeat. A real professional. I would not have wanted anyone else to guide me along the Way. Please tell them both thank you from both of us and give them our best.

Your Business is Absolutely Top-Notch

Dear Alex, Your business is absolutely top-notch! As I wrote Cate, our guide, you got a gem when you hired her. I was immediately impressed with both Jeff and Cate and my opinion of them just got better as the days went by. I found them both to be very informed, great with the presentation of their knowledge, and they were eager to accommodate any of our outside requests, if it was at all possible. They were both very personable and I can't imagine having a better Camino experience than I had with them. Thank you so much for choosing them as our guides (although I´m sure everyone is fabulous). Food, accommodations, having our luggage hauled around (poor Alberto - mine was hideously heavy, sorry)... all of it, just wonderful. I loved Alberto - the three of them made a great team. The Homes We Stayed in were Unbelievable

Hola Alex. As you can tell it takes me a little time to answer back. Much going on, but have a few minutes to send a quick note about our trip. Alex, you and your team: Pepe, Rick, Jason and the office staff did a great job with this trip. You will make it very hard for any other tour group to live up to your standards. My wife and I had a great time, everything was just wonderful. I can't say enough about Jason , Rick, and Pepe - they were great. The homes we stayed in were unbelievable, the food was wonderful. I was having a small problem with my foot but Jason & Rick were always there to make sure I was ok. Alex, we thought we would be able to take another trip in 2014 but will not be able. We have made other plans with family but if you can be so kind as to keep us in mind for the 2015 year for the Basque Country trip please let us know as soon as possible so we can make sure we go. Hola Alex, I just have to say that my Camino with Jason and Rick was everything I had hoped for, and more. Every euro spent was well worth it. The accommodations were wonderful, Pepe was such a treat, and Jason and Rick were invaluable guides. It is the Best Thing I Have Ever Done

Dear Alex, I have been home for four day now and am reflecting on our trip, Basque in the Glory! I just want to thank you so very much for organising such an amazing tour - our two guides Jason and Richard, could not have been better, they were fantastic and were so well organised and so entertaining every moment. The food and the accommodation were amazing and the walks we traversed, in spite of the mud! - were marvelous - it is the best thing I have ever done. I loved all the towns we visited and the views along the way were fantastic. A walking tour overseas is the way to go. I loved the Spanish culture especially the tapas bars! Do thank Jason and Richard for their superb co-operation - we were so fortunate in having such wonderful tour leaders with their knowledge and their sense of humour. It was wonderful having special time with my sister Marg and now my daughter is keen to do the trip! Thank you once again for a memorable trip. Kindest regards, Sue

Another Fantastic Trip with Fresco

Hello Alex, Another fantastic trip with Fresco. The scenery in Northern Spain is stunning; I loved San Sebastian and all the other coastal towns. Bilbao was a revelation, who knew what a great city it would turn out to be, how lucky you are to live there, I may return some day. The accommodation and food were as always first class, our group was very interesting and I enjoyed meeting them all, we had many laughs along the way. Richard and Jason were excellent guides and entertained us all with historic facts about the towns, the people, and traditions of the Basque Country. Thanks again for a memorable experience, hoping we will meet again sometime in the future. As always I will sing the praises of Fresco and it's fearless leader, I wish you great success with your new ventures. Kindest Regards, Pat

What a Treat it was to See the Festivities in Laguardia

Hello Alex-thoroughly enjoyed the Basque in the Glory Tour-ason and Richard did a great job. Was really impressed with Bilbao-such beautiful museums-made it to four of them-and wonderful public art. It must be a joy living there. The towns along the way were really something-loved the old walled towns-so much history. Enjoyed the group of people-did you hear about the mantra that developed?-"I'll have what Bill is having"-instead of coffee or tea at the end of the meal, I would ask for orujo-you introduced me to it last year-pretty soon Ethel would ask for it, but couldn't remember the name-so she would just say-"I'll have what Bill is having"-one evening that went around the table, and I think there were 8 similar orders-we all had a good laugh-and then everyone wondered what Bill was having-what a hoot! Could not believe that we got to climb up to the top of the cathedral in Getaria-the young fellow who led the tour was not real sure of his English skills so Richard translated, but I engaged him in conversation and he did a good job one-on-one. What a treat it was to see the festivities in Laguardia-I can now say I have seen a running of the bulls. Have you set your calendar up for next year yet? Thinking about coming back for the Andalusian one-have visited that part of Spain, but I would like to do some hiking-and you find such interesting places to visit, stay and eat along the way. Let me know when the 2014 dates are available. It was great seeing you in Bilbao-Bill

Fresco Tours is the Best

Hola Alex, Thank you and Fresco Tours for a 'Buen Camino' and then some. Your staff was fabulous (including Alissa) and made the trip even more of a success than the beautiful scenery and awesome experience. You have put together the perfect formula. The 'Hotel Victoria' is in a great location, but surrounded by Tapas Bars and a disco. It is very, very noisy from 11:00 P.M. until 5:00 A.M. and hard to for guests to sleep, even with earplugs. That being said thank you and your staff (especially Carol) again for an incredible experience. Fresco Tours is the #1 Guide for the Camino de Santiago

I walked the last 160 km with Fresco Tour guides Alex and Elvira in May. It was such an amazing experience and was made even more enjoyable through the efforts of owner/guide Alex. Every interaction with the Fresco Tour team before and after the tour was professional and timely. The accommodations were superior and the evening dinners 5*. The picnic lunches were healthy and enjoyable. The age group ran from 48-70+ and Fresco Tours met everyone's needs. An Experience that Gets Into You and Works Its Magic

Hi Alissa, Our Fresco Start tour was amazing, exactly what Bill and I were looking for as far as a 'tour' is concerned. Our walk is not something I can describe to our family and friends. Its almost impossible. They ask 'how was your vacation'? The Camino isn't a vacation. Its an experience that gets into you and works its magic. I still dream of walking. Our accommodations were wonderful and the hosts were very nice and helpful. A big shout out for O Pino Hotel whose owner & bartender were so kind to Bill, carrying on a lengthy conversation with him. Bill's Spanish is not so good and their English was the same! They managed to communicate and the result was fantastic. The small group size for the Start tour is very good also. It allowed us to get acquainted with our group and have nice dinner conversations in the evening. Really, everything was prefecto and all your help before our trip began was fabulous. It appears Fresco Start tours is popular as I go on to the website and check out the dates. Pretty much all full. May you all continue to have success with this tour. Bill and I loved it. A Religious and Deeply Spiritual Experience

Thanks, Alex, for being such a great guide and providing such a wonderful experience. Well organized and easy to follow your instructions and guidelines. Appreciated the good lodging, food, and wine. Though I experienced pain in my knee on the downhills, it was eased by the conversation with all the great people that I met along the Camino from all over the world. The man from Slovenia, beautiful women from Germany, Ireland, Canada, and Sicily, and of course our own group of thirteen. I even met South Koreans, South Africans, and two girls from Singapore. Elvira was an excellent and very hospitable guide. When I was in pain nearing the end of the walk each day, there was beautiful Elvira greeting me and encouraging me on. Also, I remember you and Pedro at the checkpoints helping us along the Way. Thanks for arranging the Masses and pointing out the old churches along the way. Truly much more than a hike. For me it was both a religious and deeply spiritual experience. Pam and I are both thinking of coming back next year for the Basque experience. I have recommended Fresco Tours to many friends already. Tomorrow, I get my second total knee replacement so I will have two new knees and hopefully many more miles of hiking ahead. Delicious Dinners and Free Flowing Wines

Hola Alex and Elvira! Thank you for a great vacation! Peter and I rated this Camino vacation a 10! - it was truly a pleasant surprise! Alex, in all our trips the past 22 years, Peter never rated one a 10 until this Camino walking tour with Fresco Tours. This is a testimony to how you made each one of the 13 'pilgrims' feel special. You could not have picked a sweeter/more lovable and more hardworking assistant than Elvira! The careful planning, organization, and direction throughout the 9 days were very evident - the memorable and gorgeous grand houses we stayed in (e.g., Marisol's manor house), gourmet picnics you guys beautifully prepared that catered to every whim (literally!), the delicious dinners and free flowing wines (literally!), the carefully selected authentic Galician restaurants at quaint towns (still remember the grilled oyster mushrooms and baby trouts at that stonehouse restaurant!), your fun meetings over cocktails, your Camino tales, and just knowing that you and Elvira were keeping eye on all of us in the trails - are just a few of the many wonderful features of your tour. We can tell you guys love what you do! We definitely have the Basque walking tour in mind next time we visit Spain! Pls keep in touch. Warmest regards, Rose and Peter

FRESCO TOURS is the 'WAY'

Just returned from Fresco's May 21st tour of the Camino de Santiago. We were a group of 13, 6 Americans and 7 Australians... a great combination :) This was a trip I dreamt about for over a year, and it was perfect. Jason & Jeremy were the greatest guides, we walked at our own pace, had fantastic picnic lunches, wonderful accommodations, so many laughs together, met great people along the way, bonded as a group!! Arriving in Santiago in the rain was quite an experience, but icing on the cake was having Father David included in the Pilgrim Mass the next day and the swinging of the incense burner! Would highly recommend this 'way'. Trip Advisor

I Could Not Have Walked The Way Without Your Continuous Encouragement

Thank you, Elvira and Alex, for an experience I will always cherish. I could not have walked The Way without your continuous encouragement and your accepting my limits. Alex, I wish you continued success with your company. Elvira, your attention to our every need and every detail made these nine days as pleasant as possible. I will never forget your smiling face when we thought we had 2Km to go and I believed I couldn't take another step! Thank you most sincerely, Barbara

Fresco Tours Help Me Make It "My Way" Thank You Frank Sinatra

Before there was The Way, I had heard about the Camino from a friend of mine who did it the one bar of soap way (means one bar of soap to clean everything in your 29 lb pack) this was not for me... so to Trip Advisor I go! Being a previous Backroads gal myself, I was looking for a similar experience but realizing there are just no 4/5 star accommodations along the Way, I had to look elsewhere and found Fresco and knew that this was IT! I had to juggle dates so I could get that one single but it was worth the wait (I like to travel solo). Alex, the owner and our Guide helped me from the day I first sent an email inquiring and never stopped being there for me and the 12 other people in our group... where does he get that energy? His favourite quote for me was that he managed expectations, I loved it and it was true, he did. 13 people, 13 personalities, 13 different approaches to The Way and he made it happen. I could tell you about the walk, the accommodations, the food, the friendships but go to his website Fresco Tours or phone, if Alex doesn't answer one of his peeps will. As the immortal Frank Sinatra once sang "I Did It My Way" thanks to Fresco Tours. Trip Advisor

I Had a Great Feeling of Accomplishment When We Reached Santiago

Hi Alex, Just wanted to let you know what a wonderful time we had on our recently completed 'private' tour on the Camino. The bus driver, Pepe, was an excellent driver and just as charming as he could be. The two guides, Rick and Cate were knowledgeable, articulate, competent, friendly and a pleasure to be with. They provided just the right amount of attentiveness and companionship. The lodgings were just what I had hoped they would be, rustic, private and very comfortable. The picnics prepared by Cate and Rick were pretty tasty too. This was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but I had a great feeling of accomplishment when we reached Santiago, though I felt a bit sad that our time with Rick, Cate and Pepe had come to an end. Thanks to Fresco Tours for providing a memorable experience. Max

A Trip Like No Other

Our group of nine 60+ year olds did the last 100 Kilometers of the Camino under the leadership of Fresco Tours. We had a week of hiking (more like walking) along the Camino, staying in hotels and inns along the way. The food was outstanding and each and every lodging had something special about it. The countryside was charming and beautiful. Walking into Santiago on the last day was thrilling and the whole trip created a memory not forgotten. I highly recommend Fresco tours for their attention to every detail, knowledgeable guides and wonderful picnic lunches. Trip Advisor

Thank You for Sharing Your Passion and Gifts

Hi Alex, I continue to savor the experience and "bump into insights" in my mind that come from that wonderful walk. Thank you for sharing your passion and gifts. It seems to me that it is a fine line to be able to lead a group through the Camino experience while at the same time leaving space for each person to absorb, wander, meditate, pray, question, etc. You have found the perfect balance. Life goes on here with both the welcome and unwelcome distractions, but I do walk a bit of the buen camino each day. Once again, many thanks. Be well, stay happy, and keep whistling! Patti

What a Classy Operation

My love affair with Spain which started with Cervantes in College and probably also because of my heritage was really enhanced by the Fresco Tours. The fact that there are a handful of people running this operation is amazing. All the accommodations were very well thought of and very unique to the area. The food that they served at the homes was superb.. sorry can't think of a better word. Ria and Jason were very attentive to our needs. Taking us to Sunday mass at Melide was one example of thoughtfulness. I am sure you had a hand in getting our little packets, labels and scallops shells etc. together. What a classy operation. It couldn't be that easy with 2 kids underfoot. The train ride from Madrid that you recommended was awesome. We booked online and got "preferente" seats at a discounted rate. FYI they served us drinks, full lunch, newspapers, coffee etc. Thank you again and Buen Camino

A Hiking Experience of a Life-time

Alissa - My husband Cliff and I cannot say thank you enough to Fresco Tours for providing a hiking experience of a life-time to us. The El Camino hike with Jason and Ria was handled highly professional and yet, at the same time, incredibly friendly, warm, and caring. The "meetings" each day of the details for the next day's walk was so very, very helpful. It gave us an opportunity to better understand what to wear, what to bring, and gave us "hope" when we saw all the milestones (especially lunch!). The accommodations were nothing short of breath-taking at times and the food and wine was not only superior but plentiful. I also want to give special thanks to Fresco for helping Cliff and I celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary ..... truly, not necessary but so very much appreciated! I want to also let you know that the knowledge, support, and thoughtfulness of both Jason and Ria was invaluable. They are responsible for making the trip one that exceeds expectations. We have already been telling friends and family about your tours. One set of friends are big hikers and in 2013 they want to do a hike in either Italy or France and they are now seriously considering the El Camino in 2014. These friends love the "quality" tour given by Fresco and they asked if you did tours in Italy or France. I said I did not think so but that I would ask. If not, would you be able to recommend another Tour company that offers the same type of quality (4-5 star) tour as you do? Again ..... it's so hard to put in words the wonderful experience we had in Spain. Finally, I did want you to know that the A Quinta Da Auga spa outside of Santiago was "first rate". We had another wonderful experience there and I would highly recommend it if any of your future customers are looking for a place to "repair" after the El Camino! All my best. Muchas gracias, Janet

Extraordinary Service Indeed!!!

Dear Alex, Alissa, Jason and Ria - My sister and I wanted to thank you all for making our first Camino experience a memorable one. I knew I wanted to do a hiking trip when I turned fifty and the Camino was not even in my mind until my sister suggested it. I made my research through the internet and happened to stumble on Fresco Tours. I recall that I called the number listed on the website first and when I received a phone call from Alex the following day that basically sealed the deal. Thereafter, it's been Alissa that I have been communicating with and again she is an ultimate professional, responding to my emails even though she was on vacation. Finally, who can forget the dynamic duo - Jason and Ria, you guys are amazing, you made everyone feel comfortable and cared for very well. Extraordinary service indeed!!! Jason even drove us to Melide and foregone his siesta time so we could attend the Sunday mass and looked for us on the Camino when we missed the lunch stop at Santa Irene...How about the food, I thought I was going to shed a few lbs while on this trip, but boy o boy was I wrong - from breakfast fit for a king, picnic lunches using fresh ingredients from the market alternately prepared by Jason and Ria - (must be a competition between the two since food just gets better and better each day - LOL!) and who can forget the dinners - I mean WOW!!! With all that said - yes, you got two very happy and content clients who are both contemplating on doing the Basque tour in the near future - not next year but possibly on 2014. Thanks again, the memories of the Camino will always be with me. Buen Camino!!! Yours Sincerely, Nimfa and Maricel

The Guides and the Driver Pepe were Outstanding

Dear Alex, Alissa, Jason, Cate, Rick and Pepe, Many thanks again for the wonderful trip along the Camino this past July. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Alissa's prompt help with all aspects of the trip, including trains and buses, was very much appreciated, and I enjoyed meeting her at the dinner. The guides and the driver Pepe were outstanding. I have been on many guided walks before and I found this one to be one of the best. I really appreciated their concern, attention to detail, and constant presence along the trail, the sign to me of an excellent company! Many companies only provide one guide who walks with the fastest in the group and forgets the others! Jason, Kate and Rick were with us along the whole route, with Pepe and the van appearing at key spots to pick up any tired souls! The lunches were outstanding, the guides did a great job preparing them, and they were always a very welcome site after a morning's walk. The hotels were always beautiful, were well located, with excellent rooms and excellent dinners! As of the flight home, I was recommending you to people I met and I feel certain that friends from England and Canada will be contacting you! Thanks again. Angela

Looking Forward to Doing the Basque Country

Hola Alex Thank you and your Fresco team for a wonderful Camino de Santiago experience. Our trip was better than we could have imagined in so many ways. A few of the many highlights: * Alissa was very helpful with pre-travel information and recommendations.
* Every aspect of the trip was well planned and organized. Our guides and our driver (Pepe) accomplished the logistical tasks so skillfully that we hardly noticed.
* Jason and Rick were marvelous guides. Besides just being great people, they were knowledgeable, sharing and fun. It was great that, armed with our daily map, we were free walk at our own pace, with or away from the rest of the group, but meet up with everyone at lunch or the end of the days hike.
* The accommodations were first rate, including some very unique spots with long history.
* The meals, including (maybe especially) our wonderful lunches, were top quality. It was a great way to experience local foods, and enjoy our new friends, relate Camino stories, etc. Also, as vegetarian who eats fish and seafood, I was thrilled at the quality and variety of the foods available, including the pulpo! Congratulations to you and the your Fresco team for providing such a wonderful Camino de Santiago tour. We are looking forward to doing the Basque Country trip in 2014. Best, Keith & Sue

Like Good Jugglers, They Made It Look Easy

Dear Alex, I guess you are used to getting rave revues but here goes another one. The whole experience exceeded my expectations at every level. But first I must start with your organisation which was first class. Australia to Spain is a long way to come for a 'cock-up' and the whole Fresco attitude and planning was first rate. It has been an ambition of mine to do this trek for some time and I couldn't have done it with better guides in Jason and Rick. The Ying and Yang of Fresco? Their care and custody of a diverse group was amazing. Like good jugglers, they made it look easy. Their knowledge, wit and charm ... amazing. The food ... great. The wine ... very good. The beer ... bitterly cold. Lucky I was walking every day or I would have come back to Australia the size of one of the many cows I saw. The entire Galician experience was breath taking at all levels - history, country side, antiquity, people. The accommodation ranged from very good to great. Thank you one and all. Andrew

Thank You for the Most Wonderful Introduction to Both the Camino and to Spain!!!

Dear Alex and Alissa, Thank you for the most wonderful introduction to both the Camino and to Spain!!! What memories! I loved my time with the group, the walk, the camaraderie, the food, the wine, (did I mention the food?), the places where we stayed and most of all, the secure feeling that we were in very good hands! This confidence allowed everyone to relax and to enjoy ourselves, which is what a vacation should be. Thank you so much for orchestrating such a venue...the places where we stayed satisfied dreams of French doors, balconies and gracious homes. The monastery at O'Cebreiro was a great starting off point! Now I must mention the guides. Jason is marvelous! He is so knowledgeable, so funny and so finely tuned to everyone's needs. He was able to manage all of us with seemingly little effort and never forgot a request or suggestion. A true professional. Rick, was a joy! So sincere, kind and very encouraging! Cate was just lovely....sweet, supportive, wanting to make sure that everyone was happy and content. Pepe, by the way, made our day with his music, chocolate bars along the way, and just frankly, being there! This is a dynamic team and they certainly outdid themselves to make sure we all were having a wonderful time. Thank you, Alex and Alissa for being so communicative, responsive and easy to work with. I have told all my friends about your company and I am sure you will be getting inquiries about upcoming tours. I am looking forward to the Basque tour next year and am trying to confirm that I can make those dates in June. Once I do, I will send in my deposit. I am missing Spain so much! The food, the wine, the people! Love the country!!! Can't wait to return! Enjoy the rest of your summer and thank you for making my 60th birthday an unforgettable adventure!!! You Really Exceeded Our Expectations

Hola Alex y Alissa: First of all, I have no words to describe how much I enjoyed the Camino. It will be an unforgettable experience that I shared with my grand-daughters especially and of course my daughter. You really exceeded our expectations; starting from Jason, Rick and Cate (let them know how much I enjoyed their input. We ended up feeling we had known each other forever, that how nice they treated us with respect and familiarity. Of course they prepared superb picnics for us; and what to say about the accommodations!!!!!!!!! Every time it was a different beautiful sensation, both for the locations and buildings as well as the owners, they couldn't be nicer. Last but not least, we were very lucky to know a very, very nice group. I do also want to mention a special person: Don Pepe. He was the one who helped finish my walks, by driving me and cheat a little bit. Not only by driving but also showing me different interesting spots and explaining them to me. I guess you can tell I am very satisfied, but mostly happy, and if I had to do it again I would definitely repeat the Camino (if only I could go back in years!!!!!) A very big, big hug, Loredana

Thank You, but Even a Million Times Over, Doesn't Do It Justice!

My dear Alex, This is the third day that I have sat at my computer trying to think of how to say an adequate thank you to you and 'the gang' for our marvelous B I G experience! It was fantastic to see you and Jason again, as well as meeting Ria. There were lots of highlights for me. I loved Hondarribia, Getaria, Laguardia and Bilbao. The stunning views, flora and fauna on the walks and the picnics (always different, always delicious). I enormously enjoyed the tapas in San Sebastian as well as the food in the restaurants at Hondarribia and Bilbao. This was my third visit to Spain with Fresco Tours so I knew I would have a fabulous time, I wasn't disappointed! I found it very interesting to compare the three trips. The groups always seem to be compatible. There never seems to be a hitch of any sort in the arrangements, if there is we are blissfully unaware! El Camino is what it is, so that is prescribed but the visits to southern Spain and the Basque country were organised in such an interesting way, mixing walking in amazing countryside, culture and gastronomy! However, lots of people could put together such a tour, I suppose, but only your magic Alex, supported by Jason and Ria, could make your Fresco Tours so very, very special. Thank you, but even a million times over, doesn't do it justice! With my love to you all and I hope we meet again – Anne

I cannot think of a thing more that you could have done, nor not done, that would have improved on it. Mostly, I feel you and Cate kept us informed all along the way, making the day's expectations clear and in most cases (the rain kept elluding us) accurate. That, for me was very helpful. It was Complete Relaxation

Our group was like a group of happy bounding puppies, always falling into ourselves noisily into hotel lobbies and restaurants. Sometimes I felt sorry for other clients in the establishments, but our sound was happy. Lots of laughter. Since all but two of us were repeat customers, I think we all knew what we would get from a Fresco Tour - fun, great companionship, fantastic planning, good walks. It was complete relaxation. The group looked out for each other during the walks like nobody's business. You need a hand? You get one without asking. Still the Fresco people followed up to ensure everyone was taken care of regardless. I remember the wonderful banter on all sorts of topics at delicious meals. A marvelous and incredibly beautiful trip along the Camino Norte along the Basque Coast.

The Itinerary was Extraordinary

Dear Alex, Where to begin! My vision of what my Camino journey was going to be was quite different from what it actually was. There was no possibility of me walking those distances daily and I expected to spend a great deal of time on the bus. My reality was very different. The main reason was because of the trip you planned and the great support and encouragement provided by both you and Ria. The itinerary was extraordinary; the preparation you took us through each day; the detailed maps of our daily journey; the fabulous places we stayed; the extraordinary food and wine all made it the most unforgettable journey I have ever taken and will ever take again! Everything was perfect!!! Even your daily fixing of my walking poles. You should be very proud of what you have achieved and I know that you will continue to go from one success to another.

Patti

A Genuine Love for the Customer

Hi Alissa, Thanks so much. Please convey my thanks to Alex and Ria as well for a job well done. I could not have asked for anything more in a tour company. What sets you all apart I think is a love for what you do and a passion for the Camino. And a genuine love for the customer! I relive certain parts of the Camino every day! We Had a Great Time with Lots of Laughter

Hola Alissa, Yes we had a great time with lots of laughter. True, it was somewhat wet at times but good walking temperatures generally. We also were pleased with the hotel selections, in particular those at Lestedo and Arzua. Thank you for your attention and please pass on my best regards to Alex as well. Kind regards, Frank

Such a Beautiful Country, Far Exceeded My Expectations

Hi Alissa, Thanks to both you and Alex for co-ordinating our extra nights accommodation and also for the transfer from Bilbao to Leon. We really had a great walk and both tour guides Jason and Ria were excellent. Our time spent in Spain, such a beautiful country, far exceeded my expectations. It was so nice to meet you Alissa , although we were so tired I don't think we were all that great company. We will certainly be recommending your company to friends and acquaintances.

Alex: So glad to be back home with so many wonderful memories. You and Cate did a stellar job of providing us with an experience that is in every way perfect.

A Wonderful Experience - the Walk, the Food, the Accommodation and the Company

Hola Alex, We had a fantastic time. Thank you, a wonderful experience - the walk, the food, the accommodation and the company of our fellow pilgrims. Jason and Ria were great too - knowledgeable and always on hand in need. The ability to do the walk solo, with others, or in a group added to the experience, we never felt rushed which was important. To finish on All Saints day was also special - the mass and seeing the incense burner in the Cathedral was something to always remember. The weather was a little unsettled as you will know, but it all added to the challenge and a great feeling of achievement at the end. The Basque Country tour looks great, but is there any chance that more walking could be added into the itinerary please? The Van Support was a Blessing

Dear Alex, I'm sure you heard everything went smoothly - except the rain which as clever as you may be, is not in your preview! We adored Jason, Ria & Pepe. The van support, which I took advantage of several times, was a blessing! Also enjoyed meeting Alissa (from Bergen County, NJ no less!) for dinner one evening. The meals and the hotels, especially at Palas de Rei were truly remarkable. Susan & I stayed on, in Santiago for several additional days enjoying the city. Later a flight attendant saw the shell on my backpack and asked if I was a Catholic. I said "afraid not", but it would be easy to become one after the Camino, the Cathedral, Churches, Seminaries, & Convents of Santiago de Compostela! Great trip. Peg

Professional, Perfect, Smooth, Enjoyable, Problem-Free Trip

Alex: It is simply impossible to even come close to describing what a truly smashing time our entire group had. Apart from the fact that the members all seemed to get along, I would say the major contribution to the professional, perfect, smooth, enjoyable, problem-free trip we were fortunate enough to enjoy came from your two outstanding guides - one Mr. Jason and one Ms. Ria. Their continuously cheerful, unfailingly helpful, attentive and jolly attitudes every single day pushed us all to the finish line. They never displayed impatience or fatigue, or boredom or frustration with us - and sometimes we were rowdy - but supported us every single minute of the tour. They also joined in our fun and enjoyed us as much as we all enjoyed ourselves. The food, especially Ria and Jason's picnics, was outstanding. They worked so hard and their dishes were picture-perfect! The route, the daily schedule, the timing, the hotels, our simply wonderful driver - whom we nicknamed "Seltzer" - were first class all of the way. Again, Alex - you and your team outdid yourselves. No complaints. Only bushels of well-deserved accolades from all of your recently-acquired customers! Every possible thing we needed was provided and in the most sophisticated way! How many times in a lifetime does anyone get to say that?!!! I think they taught me how to say it in Spanish - mil gracias to you and your exceptional team. Sincerely, Heather

You Have Great Staff and an Ideal Tour Company

Alex: Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the Camino tour in Aug 2011 and tell you how competent Jason and Ria are/were. They looked after our every need and were so helpful, additionally encouraging, pleasant and knowledgeable in every way. Both are the ideal guides to have, as well as, Pepe the bus driver. Be sure to keep them on staff. The choice of places to stay and the picnic lunches were superb. Was most impressed with your standards of service. Keep doing what you are doing. It works. You have great staff and an ideal tour company. Will not hesitate to recommend you to our friends. Thank You to All again. Sincerely Illa

Thank You for Providing this Unique and Life Changing Tour

Dear Alex, My time in Spain was wonderful. Words cannot really describe the beauty of the countryside, the wonderful accommodation and superb food, and above all, our two guides, Jason and Richard, who made an amazing experience even greater. I often wistfully recall the glorious scenery and peaceful reflective moments of the Camino as I drive to work here in chilly Melbourne. I look forward to catching up again at some stage, hopefully next year. Once again, thank you for providing this unique and life changing tour. Best wishes, Denise

One of the Best Vacations I've Ever Experienced

Alex, It was tough to come back to reality...Texas has had temperatures over 100 degrees for the past 9 days! I had such a wonderful time in Spain. The tour was one of the best vacations I've ever experienced. Jason and Richard were amazing and incredibly helpful. Their attention to detail and great sense of humor made the trip a huge success. The only bad thing is they spoiled me rotten...there's no one back in the U.S. who will pour a cafe con leche for me :) Thanks again to you and your team for everything. I will most definitely be back. I've had a huge amount of interest and questions from my Facebook posts and photos, so I may be sending some customers your way! All the best, Kelly

Thanks Again for Creating an Incredible Tour

Dear Alex, Thank you for creating such a memorable Camino experience! Every detail seemed to have been considered in the planning of our trip, from transfers, to meals (with wonderful food), to hotels (with hot water), to the "checkpoints" where we met along the Camino to insure that we were all on the right path. I was very comfortable traveling alone during this trip....the group and guides (yourself and Jason) were wonderful company and support, and I always had help when I needed it. I really appreciated the history that you and Jason shared about the Camino.....as I was primarily focused on putting one foot in front of the other, I would like to return to hear all that I missed the first time! Thanks again for creating an incredible tour! Jill

Hello Alex, Pat and I cannot stop talking about our time with Fresco tours!! We absolutely loved it. We are discussing another tour with you. We would love to do either one of your other tours however for me the end of June date that you just sent us does not work. We were hoping you might have something either in May or early Oct of 2012. If you are organizing either tour in that time frame please keep us in mind. Again thanks for an amazing experience. We are recommending you to everyone we know. An Authentic Experience

Hi Alex, Johan and I have nothing but praise and delight about our wonderful tour. The accommodation gave us an authentic experience, which we loved and we felt safe and coddled all along the way. Many thanks and praise go to Jason for understanding and facilitating our desire to sing in the churches. We looked forward with great anticipation to the lunch time picnics. They were such a treat after a hard morning of slogging along! Jason never failed to amaze us with his delicious concoctions and lovely picnic sites. His knowledge in so many fields related to the tour e.g. history of the churches, folklore and books enriched our experience. To cap it all, he's a photographer with a really keen eye. Many thanks for the gifts. Based on this trip of a life-time, we would gladly recommend Frescotours to our friends. Sincerely, Johan and Suzanne

We Fell In Love with the Whole of Northern Spain

Dear Alex, Jason, and Ria, We are now back in chilly Namibia with the Camino just a collection of many amazing memories re-enforced by photos. It has been so hard to describe to people here what it was all about. More than a walk, more than a hike, more than meeting wonderful people and seeing wonderful places.

We fell in love with the whole of Northern Spain that we saw - starting with our long train trip on the milk run from Bilbao to Leon, travelling through forests, mountains and almost forgotten old villages, and strengthened every day as we walked through fields, forests, villages and hamlets.

Thank you to Jason and Ria all for the opportunity you gave us to experience all that we did - the knowledge and insight into so many aspects of the lives of the people of Galicia made the trip so special. We also so appreciated the way you made each person feel special with the time you spent talking to each of us, showing interest and sharing so much of yourselves. We really feel we had made 2 special friends in the time that we walked.

Our next step is to compile a short presentation of our trip and invite our friends around for a show and tell evening - hot soup, fresh bread and lots of cheese (not up to Spanish and French standards unfortunately) and lots of red wine on offer while we try to convey what we experienced. We came back with a new insight into what lifestyle can be - without the frenetic rush and grind of daily life, too busy earning a living to enjoy life and are planning serious changes for the end of the year. Another Camino is high on the list - but without all the trimmings you added, now that we know what it is all about. We would happily recommend that same trip to anyone. With our love and grateful thanks for a fabulous experience, Merryl and Quintin

Something No Other Vacation Has Ever Given Me

Hola Alex, I got absolutely nothing done! I have but one sketch completed in Leon. And here was I looking at some of the most beautiful landscape in all of Spain, set off daily with dramatic lighting and fantastic views, and what was I doing? Walking! That's right putting one foot in front of the other, plodding along. And I call myself a landscape painter.

I told you before I am not a walker. I have never walked more than 5km at one time in my entire life. I came to support my wife, who is a walker, and do some painting. But the world will have to wait because what I took away from Galicia was more satisfying to me then a bunch of wet canvases. I returned home with memories of the great companions in our group, (many of whom were 'real walkers') who were supportive and encouraging all along the way. The subtle and friendly coaching of you and Jason, our guides and the daily warm handshake of our driver, Jose-Antonio all helped me to focus on the task.

Most of all I now have a great sense of accomplishment. Having completed the Camino and proving to myself I CAN do it is something no other "vacation" has ever given me. You and your tour group do more than just provide a tour; you give people an opportunity to change their perspective on themselves, and yes accomplish Miracles! Muchas Gracias. Buen Camino! Dave

It was HUGE, HUGE Fun

Hola Alex, After I got back from walking el Camino last June, I was tired, pleased with myself on my achievement but sad that I wouldn't be able to do another walk with Fresco Tours! Then I got withdrawal symptoms, I HAD to walk with the dream team again. I can only endorse what you and others have said of our recent escapade [Andalucian Affair], it was stimulating for both the body (the walks) and the mind (what we saw) but most importantly as a group we instantly jelled and it was HUGE, HUGE fun. Thank you so very much to you both for the arrangements, the information and by no means least, the excellent driving. Hasta pronto - Anne

October was a Wonderful Time for the Camino

I want to tell you how much I enjoyed the tour. Jason and Ria were wonderful and I thoroughly enjoyed everyone in our tour group. As you probably remember I came as a back-up with Susan Barge. I am very glad that Tricia backed out and I was able to come and experience it. Although I thought my shoes were comfortable as you had stressed I was the one with mucho blisters but I perservered and walked. Thank goodness for compeed. It was a tremendous experience that I will never forget. It has been so hard to describe it to people as it is an undescribable experience.

Susan and I are thinking about the Basque Tour next year and have contacted a couple of people from our group to see if they might be interested as well. October was a wonderful time for the Camino. Hi Alex, Thanks so much for the fabulous trip! You and your team exceeded all our expectations from beginning to end. Your attention to detail and customer service was exemplary, always going above and beyond for our safety comfort and enjoyment plus meeting our unique individual needs. You continue to amaze me at how you always knew where we were and what we needed? I still think about the fabulous food, both picnic lunches and home cooked dinners, the fresh local foods, the Paella, the octopus and the bagpipe entertainment. The beer and wine were great as well. I also reflect back on walking through the most beautiful part of Spain so lush and green, and you were right the Camino did not end when we reached Santiago, I am still in process of absorbing the experiences. Finally the extension of our trip to the Coast on the last day was the perfect ending to a perfect trip. Dear Alex and Jason, I want to tell you that walking the Camino de Santiago was the highlight of my life. It revived my flagging spirits, sorted me out and provided me with renewed interest and a new direction for living with contentment, purpose and acceptance of life as it is. Most Amazing and Memorable Time

Dear Alex, First of all, please excuse my long delay in writing this note to you. It took some time for me to process my experiences and put them into words. I must say that I had a most amazing and memorable time on my recent Camino trip. I was at first a bit apprehensive about joining a group, since I consider myself a capable, independent traveler. However, I quickly changed my mind once I met all of the wonderful people I would be spending the next ten days with. We all got along very well and having these incredible people to share my experiences with only made it that much better. Everything was so very well planned and it was a treat to not have to think about anything other than walking each day! You are very lucky to have the most capable and competent staff working for you. It's hard to know where to begin when thinking of Jason, Ria, and Jose Antonio. They each worked so hard every day. Jason was a wealth of information and loved teaching us about the treasures along the way, he also enjoyed learning from all of us, had a great sense of humor, and had the special gift of adding great sound effects to his stories! Ria was kind, encouraging, humorous, and always attentive to everyone's needs. In fact, she walked along with me one day when I almost gave up, and for that I am grateful. Jose Antonio was always there with a smile on his face ready to help however he could. Somehow, one of them would seem to pop up along the trail right when you needed them most with an encouraging word and a smile. My experience with these wonderful people will be with me forever and they helped me enjoy a trip of a lifetime. I should also mention that Margalit was most helpful as we planned our trip and she gave us great information on the logistics of traveling in Spain. She was always quick on the email responses. There are many joys in traveling, but perhaps the most important one is the people we meet along the journey and the connections we make with each other. I only hope that our paths will cross again someday. This trip was a great introduction for me to Spain and I'm sure I will be back someday. Thanks again and best wishes to you and your family, Christina

Still Spinning from the Wonderful Trip

Dear Alex and Margalit: I am still spinning from the wonderful trip on The Camino with Fresco Tours. I enjoyed this trip so much I feel compelled to write and let you know. Although I am a bit weary and feel I still have to get my bearings back I attribute it more to the 7 hour time difference with Panamá than to the walk. Jason, Ria and José Antonio made our trip one to be remembered; everyone was informative and extremely cooperative, and I must add very patient with all of us. The food was very good, I think we all gained a few pounds in spite of the 160 km walk! We made wonderful friends and the whole experience was an all around plus. I thank you for the wonderful time and the memories. Sincerely yours, Teresa

The Camino Becomes Part of One's Life

Dear Alex: I'm still ruminating the memories, even after three weeks of my tour. The Camino becomes part of one's life. The truth is in one's life there is a before and an after having walked it. No doubt it's hard, but we wouldn't have it any other way; almost there would be no reason for doing it: effort and sacrifice. I venture to say that for all in our group of pilgrims taking the Fresco tour the sacrifice part of the experience was nearly obliterated by the kindness, dedication, service, consistency and professionalism of the team, without removing the adventure and spiritual nature of the event. Provocative? Excessive? I don't think so. The wondrous company, service and attitude from you Alex and Jason regaled us with memorable moments. Also I must thank to all the wonderful ladies from the enchanting pazos who provided us with incredible hospitality. And last but not least, buen muchacho Jose Antonio, our reliable driver. God bless you all! A reminder to you Alex: "mi casa es tu casa" Hasta siempre, Juan

Attentiveness, Thoughtfulness, and Laughter

El Camino draws people for different reasons. Some want a good hike; others are drawn to its spiritual history. This tour uniquely blends needs with support. Personally, I wanted to stand on a trail walked by countless millions of pilgrims - but I was a bit uncertain about my body. At 62, I had acquired a few issues that I "thought" would not be a problem ... but I didn't want to be out there "alone." And true, I often ended up being the slowest hiker - so I want to tell anyone considering this tour to NOT be worried. I don't quite know how Alex, and in this case Jason, coordinate things so we - even the slowest - have plenty of time to eat, rest, and walk at our own pace. But they do ... and it WORKS. My goal was to do the best I could - and my best ended up being all 100 miles. AND, this is truly the "cruise-on-feet." If you could just imagine the cuisine (and the copious quantities of it), you would be practically running out the door to get on the trail to walk the goodies off. I never tasted so many dishes that were unique, wonderful .. and FILLING. Lastly, we were supported emotionally and physically with steadfast attentiveness, thoughtfulness, and laughter. I don't know how many times Alex or Jason popped up by my side just to check in with me. Was I okay? How was this ache or that pain? If anything untoward had happened, everything would have been in place - promptly and quickly - to handle it. I went as a single person - and if anyone is thinking of this as a single, I encourage you to do it. You are befriended on the trail. You'll sleep well, eat well, and have the energy and excitement to actually ENJOY the beautiful amazing experience of walking El Camino through the lush greenery, the ancient oaks, and the historic villages of Galicia, Spain. Craving the AMAZING Food and Wine

Hola Alex, I am just now coming down from my high of doing the Camino..... I have been sharing my experience, photos and your web address with many people, especially Flight attendants, and Pilots at work. I should have grabbed a load of business cards. Mind you your website sells itself! Karma is good! My walks have become increasingly longer. I have been wearing my poor dog out. Somehow a half hour to one hour walk doesn't cut it anymore. I need at least two hours. Is this what happens? Am I becoming addicted to walking holidays? I am craving the AMAZING food and wine that you had us so spoiled with. I actually managed to smuggle back some sausage that has since disappeared. Please say hello to wonderful, witty, British Jason for me. Gracias, Teresa

So Much to Remember and Savour

Hi Alex, It is only today that I have caught up with myself after my return from Madrid last week! Forgive me for not being in touch sooner. This morning at the gym, I thought this time last week, and the week before, I was stepping out purposefully but El Camino is far more exciting than el treadmill! Then I started my mind's video of my days on El Camino. I acquired a delightful, sadly temporary, new family who introduced me to new expressions and new ways of life. I saw beautiful countryside. I slept in wonderful houses. I ate delicious dinners and amazing picnic lunches. My feet stood up to the challenge of fairly serious day on day walking without blisters. I saw some beautiful churches both small and large. I saw more cattle than I have seen for ages, I saw sheep, horses and chickens but no ducks, geese or turkeys. There was so much to remember and savour. The highlight, our arrival in Compostela, so emotional, didn't disappoint, followed by the mass at 6pm the next day when the thurible was swung, unforgettable. None of this would have been possible without the dream team, you and Jason. I have a special place in my heart where I keep people who for one reason or another, I love to pieces and never ever want to forget, you and Jason are my latest additions. I hope somehow I will see you both again, I'm afraid it won't be in Spain, I've left it too late in life to do a second Camino, however, if either of you and your ladies, come to England, please come and see me. Thank you a million times for helping me to achieve my goal. With love and every possible good wish for the future - Anne

Singing Your Praises to All

Dear Alex & Jason, Arrived home from Europe yesterday and are now battling the dreaded Australian jet lag but like everything good or bad it will pass. Thank you for a wonderful and challenging Camino. I am sure the reason I could do it was because of your care and concern and your excellent planning. All we had to do was walk and not have a worry or concern about arrangements at all. We have been singing your praises to all and sundry. A big thank you again for your care of John. I feel the peace of the Camino was with me for the rest of our trip and hopefully I can tap into it now I am home as well. Hope all is well with you and yours. Blessings, Kate

Kindness Goes a Long Way

I just want to say how wonderful it was meeting you all and thanks so much to Alex and Jason for the support and understanding. I actually wouldn't have made it without everyone's help and spirit. I learned a lot and think insights will continue to pop up in my mind's eye as I process the entire adventure. I learned a lot and was reminded of so much I had forgotten from all of you: practice heartfelt intention; kindness goes a long way; patience truly is a virtue; you can accomplish anything at any age if you put your mind to it; knowledge is powerful; everyone has a beautiful voice, no pain no gain; how to easily answer in the affirmative just by wiggling my index finger; life is full of challenges and choices; how to tell the difference between a female and male bamboo shoot; how to swear in Spanish; mind always over matter; we never truly retire; we are all special and on a special path and, most importantly, humor goes a long way when you're in pain (along with great company and great wine!). Anyway, all for now from lovely Skopje, Macedonia. Take care and keep in touch! Much love, T

A Watershed Experience for Me

Dear Alex and Jason and my fellow pilgrims, I am back in the United States, and the blisters are healing. I think Alex said that you may find that the Camino will continue to impact you after you return, and so it has been true for me. I realized a few days after I finished, that it was actually a watershed experience for me. There was my life before I walked the Camino, and now since May 31, my life since. I think I am now a "caminoista", not to be confused with a "communista". I have returned with a sense of peace that I did not have before, with a change in perspective. I don't know that I expected such profound changes from 9 days of hard walking, but so it has been. I was so glad that all of you were on this journey with me. And Jason and Alex, there is no way I could have completed the walk without you two. And that is one of the lessons of the Camino as well. Thank you, or as Alex likes to say, muchas gracias, Erica

Really Top Notch Guides

Alex, I can't believe, I am back home again, but I can't get my mind off walking the Camino de Santiago. I am even dreaming about it! This trip truly belongs to one of my best memories in my life. You, Alex and Jason are really top notch guides. Thanks to you that our group connected so warmly right in the beginning and we shared a wonderful, wonderful time together. My heart is still smiling just thinking about my surprise Birthday party. This was fantastic! I am not a person being in the spot light, however, I did enjoy each moment. I felt very honored having a dance with you, and for a few moments I forgot - how old I was! This was an experience that strengthens my heart, my soul, and my body. Thank you, Thank you! Dr. Alex & Dr. Jason!!!

An Adventure that Ranks at the Top of Our List

Hi there Alex, Well, we are still resting up from the journey. Your recommendation for Marcelo's in Santiago was 5 star. How good was that? He also had many kind words of praise for you. I just want to say from Judy and I that we could not have had a more awesome vacation. We have traveled quite extensively around the world, but you took things to a new level. There were no details left out or forgotten as you and Jason gave our group of new found friends an adventure that ranks at the top of our list. You truly love what you do and it shows every single day. Hopefully you get a chance to look over the blog which I put together each day of the journey. If I made any mistakes on where we were at a particular time, I blame it on the wonderful Albarino wine we had the evening before. I will always keep spreading the word for Fresco Tours. I know at some time we will again see you on the trail for another adventure. So keep doing what you are doing and making new tourists a Peregrino on the Camino de Santiago. We will always keep you in our thoughts and prayers for only good things to come your way. Buen Camino, Dave and Judy

You Surprised Me at Every Turn!

Dear Alex, You surprised me at every turn! The Camino journey exceeded my expectations by far. When I decided to come with you, I had a remote idea about the walk on the Camino and what it would be like. But I had no idea about the kind of attention to details you would put into the tour part of it. Your ability to be a "host" is a natural gift you have. You and Jason have such a natural feeling for hospitality. I think your natural sense of quality in food, drink, accommodations set you apart from other tour groups by a long shot. Most importantly, though, I love your respect and honor of the culture. I think you have turned into a full fledged Spaniard! Please keep in touch! Love, Gail

It Really has Impacted My Life

Dear Alex, I'm unsure where to begin. I am so happy I followed my initial instincts and joined your Camino tour. It really has impacted my life. You really have created an amazing journey for us all. The luxury accommodations were incredible and the food, I don't even have to say how fantastic it was, were an added bonus to this tour. But what truly struck me was your interaction with us all. You have a beautiful soul. You were able to convey an interest into each of our lives and even share our moment of joy in reaching our final destination as though you were there for the first time as well. It has been a joy to get to know you, Jason, and your tour and I hope I can join in another in the future. Thank you for this spectacular adventure and for adding your special touch to our journey. It has been a journey I will never forget. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Much love, Misa

You Add So Much to the Adventure

Dear Alex, What can I add to accolades you've already gotten for your charming and professional trek? The food was excellent – local, fresh, very healthy, and the regional wine great. The sequence of walking for a few hours, mostly through gorgeous countryside and farms, and then arriving at a little cluster of buildings where they serve the best cafe con leche ever was most memorable. You add so much to the adventure with your multicultural experiences, sophistication, knowledge, sense of humor and kindness. Continued success! X0X0 Dot

It Will Be with Me Always

Dear Fellow Peregrinos and Sketchers, Although I am physically in the US my head seems to still be in Spain. Visions of arches, green hills, and stone structures with terracotta roofs keep swimming through my thoughts. The Camino sketching and walking trip was a wonderful experience which I enjoyed sharing with all of you. It will be with me always. Until our reunion... Leslie

A Wonderful Experience Walking and Sketching

Hola Peregrinos! It was such a wonderful experience walking and sketching with all of you – old friend and new – and I carry those memories with me in my sketch book, in which I continue to record this terrific trip and think of you as I continue to work on my emerging art. Alex and Jason – you are the best! And, Susan, each day I learn more from your gentle but clear instructions that go with me on this terrific journey.

A Pleasure to See People Do a Good Job

Was a fantastic trip. Such a pleasure to see people do a good job on logistics and content and do it all so seamlessly. Especially dealing with "special needs" clients! I'm enjoying being back at the farm, which you all REALLY MUST visit when you are in the states and have a little extra time. I did wake up this a.m. disappointed not to see horreos or towers of any kind. Not much built heritage around here except fallen down sheds!
