This morning, after breakfast, it is time to begin your first day on the Camino! Your day will start with a transfer to the town of Matosinhos, the oldest vestige of human settlement in the territory. This seaside town is where you will embark on your journey to Santiago.
Your stage today will take you along the ocean, which will serve as your main guide as there are far fewer of the famous yellow arrows to indicate your route on this section of the path. You will alternate between walking on pavement, tarmac roads, and wooden boardwalks as you stay close to the Atlantic Ocean, passing several beautiful beaches along the way.
As you make your way further the landscape will become full of nature reserves and the scenes of local fishermen at work. Your first day of walking ends in the town of Vila do Conde, which offers plenty of opportunities for sightseeing.
