Based in Spain since 2006

2023 is Picasso Year

In 2023 Spain and France will commemorate the 50th anniversary of Pablo Picasso’s death. The countries have declared 2023 as Picasso Year and will celebrate 42 exhibitions and events to celebrate his life and art. So, if you are visiting Spain this year, here are some exhibitions that will take place.

Portrait Pablo Picasso

In Madrid

The Prado Museum will be hosting the intriguing Picasso – El Greco exhibition.

In Málaga (Picasso’s birthplace)

The Picasso Museum and the Picasso-House Museum will be hosting major exhibitions of his work.

In Barcelona

The Picasso Museum and the Fundació Joan Miró will be hosting the Miró – Picasso exhibition.

However, at Fresco Tours we have a better idea to commemorate the 2023 Picasso Year: Visit Cadaqués!

Cadaqués is a small fishing village on the Costa Brava where Pablo Picasso spent the summer of 1910. Art critics suggest that Pablo Picasso’s move towards analytic cubism developed here with his Portrait of Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler.

Another option is to commemorate the 2023 Picasso Year is by visiting Guernica in the Basque Country. Guernica is the town that was bombed in the Second World War and inspired Pablo Picasso’s painting of the same name. Guernica also sits on the Camino de Santiago del Norte, which means you won’t lose your way in town as there are lots of yellow arrows!
