El Burgo Ranero to Villamoros de Mansilla

Sahagún to El Burgo Ranero

Day 5

Accommodations: León (B, L, D)

Distance: 23 km / 14 mi

After you leave El Burgo Ranero, the first village you’ll encounter is Reliegos, a small town with adobe houses and a rich Roman past. From here, the Camino continues through open countryside, gradually descending toward the valley of the Esla River.

Soon, you arrive in Mansilla de las Mulas, another Castilian town steeped in history and tradition. Once fortified by King Fernando II of León in the 12th century, Mansilla still preserves remnants of its medieval walls and gates.

This lively market town offers all of the usual expected pilgrim services. Along with cultural gems like the Church of Santa María and the Santuario de la Virgen de Gracia, there is no lack of traditional cafés and eateries to indulge in the local cuisine.

From Mansilla, it’s just a short walk to Villamoros de Mansilla, a quiet village nestled along the river, offering a peaceful end to the day. The proximity to León makes this stage a perfect setup for exploring the vibrant capital the following morning.
