Today is our last walking day. Our stage will take us from A Esclavitude to Santiago de Compostela! The Camino will take us through a succession of small villages that will gradually grow in size as we approach Santiago de Compostela and the end of our pilgrimage.
O Milladoiro, a town that has turned into a suburb of Santiago. Here we will stop to rest and enjoy a Fresco Tours fresh salad in our last gourmet picnic at one of the town’s green parks. The town has always been associated with the Camino and has seen hundreds of thousands of pilgrims walk through. After lunch it is time to descend into our final destination.
The last 3 kilometers (just over 2 miles) to the Cathedral take us through the city, which can be a bit of a shock after days of rambling through the peaceful countryside. We can no longer rely on the omnipresent yellow arrow painted on rocks and trees to guide us. However, the second half of the walk in the city goes through the older quarters and historic district, which have not changed much in over 150 years.
After more than a week of traveling we have finally arrived at our destination: the Cathedral. At this point, clients can go to rest at the hotel or explore the city, while the Fresco Tours team will be in charge of requesting the Compostela certificate. After a siesta or a quick adventure, we can sit down for a celebratory dinner. One we have savored some of the last time we have with our tour group we can toast to our accomplishment and our shared memories with Fresco Tours!
