We start our morning with a hearty breakfast, recognizing the bittersweet undertones as today
marks the culmination of our time together. Our tour ends with a guided visit of the Cathedral led
by our local art historian of Santiago.
Upon our entry into the fortified enclave of the city, the Cathedral is just a short and leisurely stroll
away. The Plaza de Obradoiro, informally designated as “kilometer 0,” holds a special place for the
thousands of pilgrims who complete their pilgrimage every year.
The square is surrounded by some of Santiago’s most significant landmarks, including the Hostal de
los Reyes Católicos in the Plateresque style (Spanish Renaissance), the Palacio de Rajoy, the Colegio
de San Jerónimo, and lastly, the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
Our local guide will unravel the rich history and evolution of this structure since the construction of
the initial chapel in the early ninth century. The interior of the Cathedral unfolds in a progression of
Romanesque styles, showcasing a traditional layout typical of pilgrimage cathedrals. Yet, the
undeniable gem within the Cathedral is the Pórtico de la Gloria, the west Romanesque door, a
masterpiece crafted by Master Mateo and finalized in 1188. The Pórtico de la Gloria boasts over 200
sculpted figures, seemingly brought to life as they interact realistically.
The splendor of our final destination, coupled with the profound journey, renders every experience
along the trail worthwhile! Following the Cathedral tour, you are invited to partake in the Pilgrim’s
