Magical Granada and the Alhambra

La Subbética, the Heart of Andalucía

Day 3

After a delicious breakfast, we begin to explore Granada by investigating the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Alhambra. We like to call this day: Magical Granada and the Alhambra! Our local historian recounts the splendors of this palace city that was built in the 13th and 14th centuries.

The Alhambra its stunning for the Moorish architecture, intricate tilework, and lush gardens. This medieval fortress-turned-palace complex offers a mesmerizing glimpse into Spain’s Islamic heritage and remains one of the country’s most iconic attractions. Once inside the Patio of Lions, one can understand why this is the second most visited monument in Europe as our imagination takes us to another era.

We finish the night with a fine meal in the hilly and winding streets of the Albayzin with its unmatched views of the Alhambra! Granada’s gastronomy is a delightful fusion of Spanish Mediterranean ingredients and Moorish flavors. Highlights include tapas culture, where free small plates accompany drinks, and unique dishes like “tortilla del Sacromonte” (egg dish with offal), and “remojón granadino” (orange salad). Don´t miss the region’s famous wines, such as the robust reds from the nearby Sierra Nevada foothills, and explore the bustling markets to sample an array of artisanal cheeses, olives, and cured meats.

Granada’s culinary scene is a vibrant tapestry of flavors that reflects the city’s rich history and cultural diversity.
