Along the coast there is a century-old trail first built by local fishermen and later used by the police to patrol the coast and avoid smuggling. Nowadays, the trail is an enjoyable walk along one of the most beautiful coasts in the whole Mediterranean.
North of Barcelona, following the coast towards France, the Mediterranean Sea washes a rugged coast with small bays and cliffs known as the ‘Costa Brava’. The tranquil region is scattered with quaint medieval towns, untouched landscapes and other hidden gems just waiting to be discovered.
Salvador Dalí was born in the town of Figueres, gateway to the Costa Brava, and spent much of his childhood and life here. Other Spanish artists that enjoyed the unrivalled beauty of the region were Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró, who are both honoured with amazing museums in Barcelona. However, the highlight of a trip to this region for any art lover is undoubtedly a visit to the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres!

Hiking the Mediterranean Coast
Make sure you bring comfortable footwear as we hike all of the major coastal trail highlights. And in case you were wondering, the Costa Brava trail is safe, well groomed and also appropriate for less-experienced hikers. We hike six days on tour and a total of 43 miles/70 kilometres along coastal footpaths and trails.
Medieval and Fishing Villages
The villages we visit still preserve their authenticity and charm. We are indeed in the heartland of Catalonian culture and sentiment. The locals are friendly, welcoming and also fiercely proud of their heritage and customs.
Art and History
This region was a landing place for the Greeks and Romans who came to Spain in classical times, as well as a thriving economic and cultural centre in later medieval times. The ruins we visit bear witness to these bygone eras. In the 20th century, some of Spain’s greatest artists helped rediscover this remote part of Catalonia.
