The new Pilgrim Credential and requesting your Compostela

The new Pilgrim Credential and requesting your Compostela

You have completed your pilgrimage, and your Pilgrim’s Credential (aka. Pilgrim’s Passport) is appropriately stamped. Now it’s time to request your Compostela!

The new Pilgrim Credential

The format is essentially the same, however, you will find that a QR code has been added. This is useful as scanning this code takes you to the online Pilgrim Registration webpage. You are also asked to add the registration date (when you went online and registered) and the alphanumeric code that you received after completing the registration.

The registration procedure to request your Compostela

  1. Scan the QR code in your Pilgrim Credential to open the online registration form.
  2. You can also go directly to https://oficinadelperegrino.com/en/sigle-register/ to register.
  3. At the end of the registration, the system will generate a personal alphanumeric code and a personal QR code (see image below).
  4. These will appear on the device you are using, and they will also be emailed to you.
  5. Write the date you registered online and the alphanumeric code in your Pilgrim Credential.
  6. Fill in the rest of the Pilgrim Credential as usual.
  7. You will also have the option to request your Distance (mileage) Certificate.

In the example below, the alphanumeric code that was generated is A2405GQEF

Requesting your Compostela at the Pilgrim’s Office

  1. Upon arrival to Santiago, head to the Pilgrim’s Reception Office.

2. At the door, present your alphanumeric code to the helpful guard who will give you a ticket number with another QR code. This new QR code can be scanned / read by your phone, and which you can use to monitor your status and your estimated wait time. You can also stay in the Pilgrim’s Office and wait for your number to be called.

IMPORTANT: Numbers are given out individually – ONLY one per person which is valid for one Compostela.  You will not be allowed to take more than one ticket number

3. When your turn comes up, go to the Certificate Expedition Hall inside the Pilgrim’s Office. Make sure you have your stamped Pilgrim Passport and a form of personal ID (passport or driver’s license) on hand to expedite the process. The Compostela Certificate is free (although donations are excepted). The Distance Certificate costs 3 euros.
