After breakfast our local art historian of Santiago will meet you at the hotel for an enriching tour of Santiago de Compostela & its Cathedral.
Once you have arrived inside the ‘walled’ part of the city, you are a short stroll from the Cathedral. The Plaza de Obradoiro has unofficially become “kilometer 0” for the thousands of pilgrims that complete their pilgrimage every year.
The Plaza is flanked by some of the most important monuments in Santiago: the Plateresque style (Spanish Renaissance) Hostal de los Reyes Católicos, the Palacio de Rajoy, the Colegio de San Jerónimo, and finally, the Catedral de Santiago de Compostela.
As you will learn from our local guide, this structure has undergone several transformations over the centuries: from a pre-Roman necropolis to the early 9th-century original chapel, to the remarkable 12th-century Romanesque cathedral with its intricately carved west door, Pórtico de la Gloria, to the 18th-century Obradoiro facade.
This magnificent final destination, as well as the meaningful journey, make it all worth it! After a tour of the Cathedral, you can participate, if you wish, in the pilgrim’s mass at noon. Santiago de Compostela & its Cathedral are waiting for you.
We hope that you enjoyed your self-guided journey, and we can’t wait to see you again soon!
