Caldas de Reis to Padrón

Pontevedra to Caldas de Reis

Day 13

Accommodations: Padrón (B)

Walking: 19 km / 12 mi

This morning after breakfast, you depart from Caldas de Reis to Padrón. After an uphill walk through mainly wooded areas and farmland, you arrive in the town of Carracedo. You can stop to grab a café con leche, tapas, and a stamp at the friendly bar in town where they let pilgrims write messages or just their names on the walls and ceiling! You continue walking through the narrow streets of Carracedo, lined with stone buildings, before beginning your descent into San Miguel de Valga, a quiet town with a pleasant 18th-century church.

The Camino depart from San Miguel de Valga and approaches Pontecesures, a town that has become a busy commercial area in the countryside. As you cross the bridge over the River Ulla, you enter A Coruña, the province of Santiago de Compostela! Continue walking to Padrón on the Rúa Castelao, which is flanked by two figures associated with the area: a monument to Spain’s last Nobel Literature Prize laureate Camilo José Cela on one side, and a monument of one of the greatest poets in Spanish history, Rosalía de Castro, on the other. After exploring the town you reach your hotel, where your luggage will be waiting for you.
