Today’s walk is one of the most iconic and emotionally resonant stages of the Camino. Leaving the quiet stone village of Foncebadón, the trail climbs gently toward the legendary Cruz de Ferro (Iron Cross), perched at 1,504 meters—the highest point on the Camino Francés. Pilgrims bring a stone from home to leave at its base, a symbolic gesture of letting go, spiritual ablution, or in remembrance of someone dear. It’s a deeply personal moment, surrounded by silence and sky.
From the Iron Cross, the path begins a steady descent through breathtaking mountain scenery. The views are wide, and the trail winds through pine forests and rocky slopes. Keep your camera close—this stretch offers some of the most stunning vistas on the Camino.
Soon, you arrive in El Acebo, a charming village with slate-roofed houses and a welcoming pilgrim vibe. It’s a great spot to rest, grab a snack, and soak in the mountain atmosphere. The descent continues until you reach Molinaseca, your destination for today and another picturesque town. You’ll cross the beautiful Romanesque bridge over the Meruelo River to enter the village—a moment that feels like stepping into a storybook. The town is also known for its natural swimming pool, formed by the river itself, and on warm days, it’s the perfect place to cool off and relax.
