Carrión de los Condes to Calzadilla de la Cueza

Carrión de los Condes

Day 2

Accommodations: Carrión de los Condes (B, L, D)

Distance: 17 km / 11 mi

Following the ancient Roman Via Aquitania, which once connected Bordeaux (France) to Astorga (Spain) you continue your journey west. During the Middle Ages, this road became a key path for pilgrims traveling from the Aquitaine region to Santiago de Compostela, predating the Camino de Santiago.

The Meseta continues to offer a quieter, less-traveled alternative, rich in Roman heritage, medieval architecture, and rural landscapes, making it ideal for pilgrims seeking solitude and historical depth. Indeed, pilgrims, whose final destination is not Santiago de Compostela, often walk this section of the Camino seeking more peace and quiet than other busier sections.
