After breakfast your journey resumes from Pontevedra to Caldas de Reis. As you leave the town, you will cross the Ria de Pontevedra with another beautiful view of the coast and the estuary. After some walking you will come upon the small Chapel of San Cayetano, which stands out amongst the busy modern streets. The scenery around you will change as you enter the woods near San Amaro. Here the Camino passes through the hamlet of San Mauro, named after the 13th century French abbot and pilgrim who completed the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela and decided to settle down in Castile and open a hospice for lepers.
Further on your journey from Pontevedra to Caldas de Reis you have the choice to take a brief detour to the Río Barroso Waterfalls. Here, the Agra River forms waterfalls and small pools where you can enjoy the temperate water and a scenic break from walking. After a relaxing and refreshing stop, you can continue on your walk through the countryside.
The Way continues through the small town of Tivo, where you can find a solemn cruceiro and a babbling fountain, as well as a bar for a quick drink and a stamp before continuing your journey.
After a long day, you cross the bridge over the River Umia and enter Caldas de Reis. The town is named after the hot springs (caldas) and King Alfonso VII of León, who was born here in the 12th century. The village is still well known for its thermal springs and has always been a popular spot along the Vía Romana XIX and the Camino.
