Arteara to Tunte

Mogán & the Dunes

Day 3

Accommodations: Parador Cruz de Tejeda (B, L, D)

Distance: 10 km / 6 mi

After packing up, we shuttle back to Arteara and continue to climb northward along the same trail that has served as a vital route for centuries. Our stage goes from Arteara to Tunte. As we make our way through the gorge, we come upon the charming village of Fataga. The village is situated in a valley in the interior of the island, surrounded by mountains and characterized by its traditional Canarian architecture, with stone houses, whitewashed walls, narrow streets, and a relaxed atmosphere.

We continue our ascent and, after tucking into a signature Fresco Tours gourmet picnic lunch, come to the town of Tunte, a village surrounded by mountains and valleys, located in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. The village of Tunte itself is relatively small, but it has a few notable attractions worth visiting. One of the main sites is the Church of San Bartolomé, a beautiful 17th-century church with a simple yet elegant architectural style. This church is important in Camino de Santiago lore, as it houses the original statue of Santiago, said to have been brought by sailors after surviving a shipwreck.. It also boasts a Holy Door, which grants plenary indulgence to pilgrims on holy years.

After our second day of walking, we head to Cruz de Tejeda to sample more local fare for dinner. Our Fresco Tours guides will sit down with the group for the evening meeting to review tomorrow’s walk. They’ll go over the map, explain the terrain, mark the support vehicle checkpoints, and point out our picnic point.
