Today’s stage goes from Oia to Baiona as you continue your journey north. Shortly after leaving the town you walk along a sandy path before entering the small hamlet of Viladesuso. The path continues through the village to a rural residential area until you reach the albergue in Mougás, another quiet village.
With views of the sea, you may be able to spot some mussel harvesters along the coastline. These people collect baby mussels from the rocks and transfer them to be farmed in the Ria de Vigo, where it takes a year for them to grow to full size. Be sure to try some of the local seafood from the area, as it is famous for a reason!
The path begins to climb just over 100 meters through a pine and eucalyptus forest. Be sure to enjoy the views of the coastline before you’re surrounded by trees. The path soons open up again, and you see how the deeply rutted granite stones along the Way have clearly been worn down over centuries of use.
You pass through stretches of farmland until you reach Baredo where you get your fist glimpse of the sea from the other side of the mountains. After that, you enter the pine forest along Estada de Baredo until you can see Baiona.
Further ahead you pass a cruciero where you begin winding your way downhill through an outlying village to the outskirts of Baiona. As you enter the city you pass multiple ancient churches in the Plaza Santa Liberata and a 17th-century hospital which has now been converted to house Biaona’s library and cultural center.
